West coast Bridal Expo show producer first to comment on eWedNews.

A developing story that involves bridal shows and traditional bridal publications is being researched to see whether the profitability of the venues can be sustained, as production costs rise in a competitive market. This week, Richard Markel, a producer of bridal shows on the west coast, discussed the topic with eWN, saying attendance and vendor participation is up so far this year, reflecting the growing consensus around the country.

Markel has produced bridal shows every year for the last 16 years, claiming the name of his show, Bridal Expo, is service marked in California. Over the last year, Richard has networked extensively with bridal show producers throughout the country. In so doing founded and for its first year directed the BSPI (Bridal Show Promoters International) and is felt to be a reputable, growing authority on the subject matter.

“We have to wait and see; once all the numbers are in later in the season, we will be able to make a better determination. So far, attendance has been good and the vendors seem to have a better outlook,” said Markel in a phone interview. Markel’s broad knowledge of the wedding industry will be leveraged as an expert to provide insight into related topics. Plans to meet this May in New York are in work.

eWN continues to gather information and will update this story, as more becomes available.
