It was just another snow storm on the east coast Friday. But after braving what seem to be a weekly event and the smell of spring in the air, unhappy wedding businesses say they have had enough. Luckily, the storm that knocked out power to more than one million homes and businesses in the Northeast and disrupted travel didn’t leave its full impact on weekend weddings in the region.
Heavy snow and high wind reports brought down power lines and tree limbs. One victim in New York’s Central Park was identified as Elmaz Qyra, 46. Qyra was struck and killed by a falling tree limb while walking through the park, after finishing his shift in the bar of the New York Athletic Club.
Businesses in New Hampshire reportedly dealt with wind gusts of more than 90 mph, as 800,000 more customers were said to be in the dark from Maine to Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Flooding in northern New England and snow blocking roads and airport runways canceled nearly 1,000 scheduled take offs set to leave New York airports.
“Enough already,” said Twitterers and Face Book fans from the area. Some told eWN they would cozy up and stay in bed Friday and rest up for weekend events they hope would even go off. Some wedding vendors said they were hopeful the airports would catch up and allow travelers coming into their areas for events to arrive on time.
