In our first story since leaving the wimpy tuxedo business, our hopes of putting out a positive story are all but dead—just like the business. After 10-years of covering the men’s formal wear category, we find the cast of characters still at their old game of deception, treachery and deceit, preying upon the unsuspecting consumer that is being torn between renting or purchasing their formal wear for less formal occasions. But this story will not cover the debate of whether to rent, buy or even use tuxedos; instead, we direct your attention to the idiotic statement, real men don't rent.
Of course they do, by the millions, annually—just ask Men’s Wearhouse. According to The Wedding Report’s latest findings, nearly 90% of the couples surveyed RENTED, as opposed to buying the groom’s outfit.
Do you know men that rent tuxedos? are they weenies because they do?
The statement is as broad and presumptuous as saying all Italians are mobsters, or all Irish people are policemen, etc. An exchange on Twitter with the owner of the web site failed to identify their identity for at least three times asking “who are you?” Ron Kahan of Top Hat Tuxedos in Whitehall, PA responded, “MAJOR LEAGUE ASSHOLES. How about they show their faces and let us know who they are?”
Within the hour, the owner of the web site and narrow-minded statement was identified as Harris Reinhart. Mr. Reinhart was able to make some very valid points of why he feels there is great opportunity to sell vs. renting. But Mr. Reinhart could not understand the reason for the exchange and hopefully, this written piece will get through; a man is not judged by whether he rents his formal wear or purchases.
We hope this will clarify our position; we don’t care whether he sells, rents, gives them away as prizes, it doesn’t matter. What does matter is, let the consumer decide and not sway them, either way, with loaded statements.
