In preparation for today’s story involving the weather, we Twittered followers and asked if they were enjoying the time off caused by the snow. eWN mentioned how some of our vendor-followers were getting another unwanted break because of the weather conditions. As expected, the usual dismayed comments that involved shoveling and staying home with the kids (and spouse) ensued. But from our home town of Brooklyn, NY, where we thought it’s always sunny and warm, Maya Kalman replied, “Not fair: WHO's getting to take a breather?!”
Kalman, of Swank Events , said she was busy preparing for an event in the New York area, geared towards higher end wedding planning. “If you want to be successful, you can’t concern yourself with such things as time and weather,” felt Maya in a telephone conversation.
Maya casually mentioned some very high end colleagues and agreed planning today’s events require dedication and commitment that transcends time, space and weather conditions. Maya joins a growing number of accomplished professionals that agree, the wedding business is becoming diluted by part-time, unprofessional vendors and planners.
Maya’s style, grace and dignity came through loud and clear, setting standards that only true professionals that know what they’re doing can communicate— without ever saying it. She told of accounts where her advice was not heeded by friends she helped with their plans and later were disappointed, wishing they would have listened to her. “All we can do is be there for our clients and offer our experiences. But in the end, we’re there to make sure what they picture for their special day comes to life and meets or exceeds all their expectations,” she feels.
We thank Maya and all the true professionals that continue to maintain their standards of excellence and quality at a time when it’s very difficult not to be distracted by the growing challenges we face. Thanks to Maya and others like her, we’ve set up a discussion area where we hope you will join others and give your views on topics you think are important and gather the thoughts of others. While doing so, we hope we can even find some solutions to the problems we all seem to agree upon. Please visit Facebook | Why are there more planners than events? Feel free to tell others.
