An Independent study and a growing consensus among wedding planners willing to admit the move say weddings are becoming less formal. Planners and nearly all types of wedding guides are encouraging brides to be themselves and save a lot of money doing it, departing from traditions that have become too costly to keep up in a struggling economy.
An independent study completed by The Wedding Report shows the shift away from traditional wedding planning and the greater acceptance of casual, less formal events. The report confirms the suspicions of years of decline in both the number of weddings and those that adhere to protocol.

Research beyond the findings of the report shows greater latitude in what can be done by couples wanting their affairs to be unique and not limited to what was once deemed appropriate. Websites, printed editorial and planner sources offer alternatives to couples that were once considered taboo, giving the green light on just about anything.
From the use of alternative metals for wedding bands to cupcakes replacing traditional wedding cakes, the freedom of planning an affair that is both unique and doesn’t break the budget is felt to be the trend for quite some time, as the nation recovers from the current economic plight.
