A developing story involving the decay of the Print Media industry is reportedly sending some tree killers scrambling, as income and lifestyles are said to be impacted. For decades, Print Media ruled supreme and symbolized the leading edge of advertising and to some degree, still does. However, print continues its decline in effectiveness and certainly is no longer the only game in town.
Discussions with sources at Hearst Publications, Conde Nast and other major print sources say they’re trying to provide their advertisers with greater value, adding Internet exposure and Social Media to menus that once offered nothing more than ad space. From the largest magazines to small, regional publications, revenue is said to be down dramatically with no end of a rebound in sight.
“Pretty pictures in nicely bound magazines; it was great to see you name in print at that time. But today, it takes a lot more than that to get our dollars,” say sources shying away from print. Advertisers say they’re looking for multi-media exposure as augments to in house campaigns. With a greater shift towards Social Media use, it is estimated that print will only receive a 30% portion of current advertising budgets in the next 12-18 months.
Studies to substantiate the estimates are being formulated that will poll couples and ask them what methods of advertisements they utilized to help plan their weddings. Questions and specifics direct to consumers are expected to answer current questions posed by company decision makers wanting to know where to direct their marketing resources for the best return.
The information and coverage is felt to be getting under the skin of some successful publications and venues, somehow feeling they’re being treated unfairly by this news source. “We all know the challenges we face but why do you have to keep driving the information home day after day?” asked one disgruntled source. As in the case of all other print media sources, no one likes to be reminded of the challenges they’re faced with, yet, no one can dispute the information.
