The week of May 24th in review

The week of May 24th saw continued interest in the Knot and their reported attempts to shed their arrogant image and become a more approachable organization. In a Press release the Knot states brides have been writing vendor reviews for more than 10 years, but posting them in private. The format has reportedly been troublesome to their advertisers, expressing frustration in not being able to be provided with a way to explain their side of the story.

BSPI members snub new e-Book written by a successful vendor.

An e-Book written by a successful wedding vendor turned consultant has reportedly been snubbed by Bridal Show Producers that were asked to endorse the project. For unknown reasons, response remains slow or non-existent, as members mull over their next move.

The men’s formal wear category is poised to return to greatness after nearly a decade of decline. The overall use of traditional formal wear has been steadily shifting towards casual looks and the use of non-formal wear sanctioned products, as society standards decline.. But also, consolidation of the tuxedo business and lack of new style innovation are to blame for the decline.

Rents begin to rise in major markets, as the economy starts to improve.

Rising Rents in some of the nation’s priciest markets could signal a rebound or at least a stabilization of the economy when coupled with other rising indicators including better retail number postings. For over a year the nation’s economy has been languishing in what has been the worst recession since the 1930’s.

Is it time for tuxedos to return to greatness? FLOW thinks so.

After nearly a decade of decline, the men’s formal wear category may be staging a comeback. The formal wear business experienced five years of growth leading up to the millennium celebration of 2000. But shortly afterwards, the allure of black tie lost its appeal and has never fully recovered since 9/11.

Press Release: FLOW and Black Gold enter into a joint venture

New York, NY, May 24, 2010:  Flow Formal Alliance’s Accessory Division & BlackGold LLC have formed a joint venture to service the retail & rental formalwear accessory markets.  The new entity, separate from FLOW & BlackGold, will be doing business as Fusion Designs.  Fusion Designs will be equally owned by FLOW Formal Alliance & the current principles of BlackGold.

The Knot gets real and comes out of the closet

Last week the Knot (www.theknot.com; NASDAQ: KNOT) announced a new format that departs from the reported closed-door environment that alienated vendor-advertisers for nearly a decade. Reports that said the Knot favored brides and disallowed their advertisers to give their side of the story are being addressed in a new, open forum.
