Carnegie, Steinway, Gotham and Beskin: three famous Halls and one elegant New York lady that remains neatly juxtaposed with all of them. In a lunch interview with Elizabeth Beskin , it was easy to discover why her business address is on the same block and area of these famous and prestigious locations.

Liz Beskin knows her business and her market and now, her event supporters will be able to leverage that knowledge and benefit from her.
At a mature stage of her life, Beskin is in the process of reinventing herself and taking on greater challenges, as opportunities present themselves. “You can never sit still and wait for great things to come; you need to be where the action is and always be prepared,” said Beskin. Rarely does this reporter feel like the one being interviewed but Beskin came close, wanting to know about eWedNews and how we came about; sorry Liz, we caught your act. Skillfully, we managed to redirect the questions back to Beskin talking about life, living and the illusiveness of greater success in a very tough economy.
Beskin and her partner, Maya Kalman, planned last week’s Ultimate Engagement event nearby. In a diluted wedding show market, Beskin said she and Kalman had had it, attending shows for their own businesses, where brides were herded like cattle instead of experiencing the one-on-one feel with their potential vendors.
“It was simply awful and a very unpleasant experience. Look, planning is difficult enough, why add to it? Why be stuck on a long line waiting for some show to start, holding a paper bag, waiting for someone to talk “at” you instead of “to” you?” they both decided.
The style, ease and grace that clearly came across at the event is causing a buzz in the business and rightfully so. Wedding shows that have been the same for decades are felt to be under pressure to change or be set back, now that events like Ultimate exist. Jaded statements that managed to surface after the show were put into perspective, given the real estate where Ultimate and Beskin reside. “The criteria for the show was high but then so was the standards of the vendors; these are the leaders in their perspective area of expertise and should be treated as such. It was our desire to deliver the bride that qualified and we feel we did our best,” said Beskin.
Plans for another similar event that would tweak certain aspects of the show were discussed. “Definitely; both Maya and I have our sights set on developing what we worked so hard to create. But for now, we’re going to enjoy this time and continue with the post show plans that we knew would be there,” says Beskin.
