Do It Yourself or Doing Yourself In?

Questions are being raised, whether napkin holders made from spent toilet tissue rolls  offer the same personal touch to wedding affairs; or if what was originally deemed cute may have crossed the line, over to tacky. Are things really that bad that a few dollars spent to retain the services of a professional won’t maintain your standard of living? Probably not but it may avert the risk of people talking negatively about you for decades.

Trash the dress or the idea?

Before you decide to have your bride get into the water or take a blow torch to her gown, stop and think of the ramifications years down the road when she decides it’s not what she really wanted. Trashing the dress is felt to be a fashionable way to say, be creative, have fun and show a little naughtiness in doing it.

Snow, wind and rain bog down north east businesses again.

It was just another snow storm on the east coast Friday. But after braving what seem to be a weekly event and the smell of spring in the air, unhappy wedding businesses say they have had enough. Luckily, the storm that knocked out power to more than one million homes and businesses in the Northeast and disrupted travel didn’t leave its full impact on weekend weddings in the region.

Not everyone got a day off because of the weather, especially swanky people.

In preparation for today’s story involving the weather, we Twittered followers and asked if they were enjoying the time off caused by the snow. eWN mentioned how some of our vendor-followers were getting another unwanted break because of the weather conditions. As expected, the usual dismayed comments that involved shoveling and staying home with the kids (and spouse) ensued. But from our home town of Brooklyn, NY, where we thought it’s always sunny and warm, Maya Kalman replied, “Not fair: WHO's getting to take a breather?!”

Bridal Show Producers evolve along with changing brides.

The changing landscape of the wedding industry is nudging every aspect of planning to either innovate and move past the same old -- same old of yesterday or risk losing the attention of a very knowing bride that doesn’t want what her sister had before her. In nearly all categories, the feeling of making things old new again must be done in a way that ends up the same as before-- but the path leading to the decision must be fresh and new.

For better or for worse, even major players like the Knot and Macy’s have troubles.

Marriages forged in better times and with the best of intentions are under pressure these days, as the down economy takes its toll on every aspect of life. The divorce rate is expected to rise, along with an economic rebound, supported by historical data being analyzed. With that in mind, onlookers say a “separation” may have begun between the Knot and Macy’s, as the better part of their relationship may now be leading to the worse.
