FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kristina Smith Named to Wedding Industry Survey Network Advisory Board
New York – Tucson: August 16th, 2010 – In their ongoing efforts to fill the need for timely and accurate information in the wedding business, the Wedding Industry Survey Network (WISN) names Kristina Smith of Ask Dr. Bride its advisory board.
Kristina Smith, a respected wedding professional with over 15 years experience in the wedding industry, began her career as a cosmetologist. Kristina’s calling to the wedding business came when she offered to “Help Out” at a friend’s wedding; it was at that point Kristina realized her true passion.
Kristina’s career spans many different areas within the wedding industry, including opening “Wish” a bridal consignment boutique that specializes in designer gowns at the fraction of the cost.
As Dr. Bride, Kristina brings her trademark enthusiasm and energy to help brides not only cope with emotional pitfalls but to give them the tools needed to survive the engagement. A natural comedian, Kristina is known for sharing her observations about the wedding planning process with a candid sense of humor, outspoken honesty and bluntness that brides and wedding professionals find refreshing and motivating.
In March of 2010 Kristina put those observations in writing, forming Dr. Bride and askdrbride.com
Inspired by a decade in the wedding industry, Dr. Bride is an authority on behavior, offering advice to brides, their friends, family members and wedding professionals. As Dr. Bride Kristina provides an honest perspective, differing from those that enable the questionable behavior. In her approach, Kristina subtly shuns the behavior associated with the “Bridezilla” mentality.
In addition to writing regular blog post at askdrbride.com, Kristina is working on several projects including local and national media. Kristina is also writing a book called “In the Company of Brides” a collection of hilarious and irreverent essays pertaining to the bride and the wedding industry. Kristina is a proud mother of two beautiful daughters Kailee (age 20) and Brooklyn (age 15), she currently resides in Sacramento California.
“I am thrilled and honored to have been asked to join WISN. This organization is the first of its kind. WISN delivers the statistics, reports and data needed to inform us about what is going on in the wedding industry in REAL TIME. WISN doesn’t only expose the truth about our industry, but gives the tools needed to help wedding professionals to have a better understanding of the marketplace local and worldwide. It is my pleasure to represent WISN!” said Smith.
“In our ongoing efforts to assemble a balanced representation and broad thought pattern on our board it is often difficult, if not impossible, to find where logic properly aligns with creativity and respect. That is why we were taken with Kristine; her ability to express her thoughts with genuine feeling and get her message across is rare. We look forward to working with her,” said Shane McMurray, creator and head of the Wedding Industry Survey Network.

When the economy came to a crashing halt in late 2008 into 2009 it proved once and for all that the wedding industry is not, or ever was “recession proof”. In retrospect, sources that worked at some of the largest and most respected wedding organizations reveal how they were mandated to go out and embellish numbers, spinning them in such a way that would entice advertisers to spend money, fueling the machine that once was the wedding industry. Now, years later, these same organizations are being reduced to rubble—with no end in sight.
